Venezuela Mudslide Response
Venezuelans are still suffering after massive flooding and mudslides
permanently defaced their country in December. The disaster killed
thousands and nearly 300,000 people lost their homes. Many are living in
temporary shelters with plenty of mattresses but few activities creating a
socially and psychologically unhealthy situation.
MCC has committed $562,000 for mudslide relief. Approximately $45,000 will
go to initial purchase of food, clothing and other basic supplies. Ten
thousand health kits are on their way and another 23,000 relief buckets are
needed. Long term plans include home construction and economic development
initiatives for people who lost businesses and jobs in the mudslides. As
well, MCC partners expect to train local church leaders to work with
traumatized people.
A contents list for refugee buckets appears in the sidebar. MCC will also
purchase a Spanish Bible for each bucket. If you would rather make a
financial donation towards this project, please mark your giving "Venezuela
Mudslide" and send it to our office. We also accept credit card donations
by phone.
